A. R. Rahman had been struggling from such a tender age, for sometime afterwards he stopped believing in God. But later when he stabilised himself the concept of God in Islam was very appealing to him. So he and his whole family converted to Islam. This was around 1989. Anyway his mother was from a Muslim family. Family probelms and the need for peace of mind made him convert.
